Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Workers’ Medical Clinics (FTU Clinics) is a medical service organization established in 1950 by Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTU). As a charitable institution of public character since 1991, HKFTU Clinics currently managed six medical clinics, six dental clinics, ten Chinese medicine clinics, three X-Ray & Laboratories and one Hearing Test Centre, providing services over the territory. Our well-developed and comprehensive clinical network aims to provide quality and affordable healthcare services for the community, especially those working class and low-income households. We also offer special discount rates for the elderly and underprivileged members of society.
During post-war years in the late 1940s, people strived to survive under a poor living condition. Medical services were totally deficient in public sector while general citizens could hardly afford the costly private services. Nevertheless, HKFTU strived to solve problems for the workers. Getting support from the unions, ardent doctors and nurses, FTU Clinic started to provide medical service in 1950. X-Ray & Laboratory and Maternity Home were established in the following year. In 1955, we also developed our first Chinese Medicine Clinic.
Celebrated our 55th anniversary in 2005, FTU Clinics never stop innovating and developing medical care and services. Today, our medical clinics provide general consultation and various specialties including General Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology and Pulmonary, Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, etc. Chinese Medicine Clinics provide CMP general practice including internal medicine, acupuncture, bone-setting and massage. Our X-Ray & Laboratories provide x-ray examinations, ultrasound examinations, various laboratory tests and nearly 20 check-up profiles to cater the needs of the community.
Over a long period of time, FTU Clinics not only provide quality and affordable medical services, but also consistently participate in social services. In the past, our first-aid team dashed to the disaster area in order to provide medical care to those victims. FTU Clinics regularly delivered outreach Chinese medicine services in remote areas, such as Lantau Island and Peng Chau. Promoting healthcare in community, we frequently organized free Chinese medicine consultation, medical check-up and health seminars for the public. Collaborating with academic institutions, we regularly offer CM clinical audition and CM dispensing internship for the students. As one of our experienced CMP, Dr. Lam Kar-wing is currently a member of Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong. He continuously makes contribution to the development of Chinese medicines.
Advancing with the Times
With years of planning, FTU Clinics (Tsuen Wan Branch) was relocated to a spacious ground floor area in 2003. It provides one-stop healthcare services, including Chinese medicine, western medicine, dental care and X-Ray & Laboratories for the public, especially those tenants in northwestern New Territories. Last but not least, FTU Clinics will constantly strive to improve our services and devote every effort to achieve the mission of HKFTU.
